oil leaking from cases. 18.000 miles. wonder if re-torqueing will help or will it be a shop fix/

If you can, take a picture of the leak and upload it here (or you can upload to www.imgur.com and link here for free). I've seen the drain plugs leak if the washer isn't replaced, but that doesn't sound like your issue.
