some time ago I fitted LED retrofits from Philips for the rear dual function 1157 bulb. Here is a summary. in short: impressive. except for the rear light reflector is shaped such that it does not reflect the light from the LEDs fully.
Also, since the LEDs produce only red light, the license plate is illuminated in red.
otherwise, the visibility and function is very good. Have had these on for a year.

Here is an update on the latest 1157 retrofit from Philips. This design is much better in illuminating the lamp reflector and filling in the area of the lens.
