08 xb12xt, 35,000 miles.

I just bought the bike 5-6 months ago. When i bought it i had a charging issue that turned out to be the battery. Charged the battery over the weekend and it ran fine for months. One thing i noticed the whole time was that the CEL comes on between 3k-4k rpm but goes off if the rpms either drop below or raise above that.

So 6 months later i get another cel that comes on shortly after i take off down the road and then stays on until i cut the bike off and start it back up a few minutes later. Before you know it cluster shuts down, bike shuts down....dead battery.

I have the battery checked and it comes back for a dead cell, buy brand new battery start the bike up and after half a block the cel comes on and stays on so i go back and park it. I CANNOT GET THE CEL ON WHEN THE BIKE IS JUST SITTING TO CHECK AND SEE WHAT TYPE OF CODE ITS THROWING.

Checked the ground and it seems ok, also took a voltage meter to stator and regulator, both also reading as they should from what i pulled up on google. Also noticed im popping low beam headlight bulbs every few days.

please help, this is my one and only vehicle....yeah, i`m that guy.

I posted this on buellxb also, but...

The good news is that the bike's computer stores the trouble codes even after the CEL has turned off. Instructions are easy to find, but here is a link on how to read the code without any special equipment.

Others having similar problem reported that changing the voltage regulator had solve this problem. The reported cel was a voltage issue. Also reported was that these symptoms were a sign that the voltage reg was slowly going bad.
