This winter I will be checking the pinion gear on my oil pump and upgrade if needed. While in there I am contemplating changing the cams to N4 or SE 497. I try not to run it to the red line all the time but will use the entire RPM range at times. Is there any real gains / losses to be made with changing the cams, or am I just wasting my money.

By the way, 2000 M2 with 9k miles. Thanks in advance for any input.

The M2 cams are pretty nice for what the bike is. Lots of nice grunt down low where you want it riding around town, easy to jet, good fuel economy. The 2000 cams are also quieter than the newer "high contact ratio" cams they put on the X1 (or so I was told).

I wouldn't mess with them. Enjoy the M2 for what it is.

Thanks for your quick response, one of the nice things about the M2 is the low end torque as well as the flat torque curve, I've got the bike dialed in real close to what I want and it does not take that long to pull through the RPM range. I will take your advice.

Good decision... I have a feeling (that I can't back up with facts) that those stock sportster cams are better for longevity also.

The Uly is a better all around bike, but I still often miss my M2.
