Please forgive the first post as asking for help. I promise to go to the intro thread and post up about me. But for now I'm worried about this bike. It's new to me in December and is an 03 xb9s with 29K miles. I really am concerned about the knock I'm hearing. See what you think from the video I just made today...

Hard to really tell from video, but that doesn't sound good... like it could be a crank. Interesting that it seemed to get better with higher revs though.

I've heard that it might be a lifter. Possibly related to low oil pressure. With my idle a little on the low side, I guess that's possible. I really don't want to have to rebuild this motor...

I'm not saying it is , but 9 cranks do fail, could be a bad pump at this stage.

Find out sooner rather than later.

I think "Hogs" still has a crank that will fit - just for info.

I think 03 still had the old style pinion gear on the oil pump. Drop the oil pump and look up in the cam cavity at the pinion gear on the end of the crank that drives the oil pump. Check it in several crank positions.

They don't wear as bad as on the tubers, but they can wear.

Two things the primary chain adjustment sounds a little tight {check The adjustment cold per service manual} 2nd the knock, Do you have oil in the bike sounds like a lifter???. I would change the oil try some marval Mystery oil and see if that would free up the lifter.{Roll the Dice!
