Ok, i'm fairly new to MCs. We bought this 2003 Buell Blast not too long ago. I'm not sure if it had this issue when I bought it. When we bought it it did smoke a start up. i’ve been doing a lot of reading and am running out of ideas.
The issues:
1. Bike had a hard time going past 35-40, generally when uphill. It does not stop or stall, but kinda chugs and chugs.
2. Kickstand kills engine when bike is in N.
What I have tried:
1. Oil Change (first i changed it cold, got it hot drained oil and did it right). It killed most of the smoking.
2. New spark plug and wire
3. New intake boot (it had the superboot on it)
4. Higher octane gas
5. Battery tested fine at auto store, no dead cells good charge
6. Battery keeps a good voltage when I git the throttle.
7. Opened carbs and cleaned Jets (small one had some stuff that I cleaned.
8. I adjusted the idle mix screw. It does kill out when screwed in so the jet's probably aren't too big.

Little more background. The guy before me had the bike for about a year and put around 60 miles on it. He did some random mods to it. He jetted it, Superboot, handlebars and some more.
I thought I fixed it when I took the boot off and cleaned it up a little and put it back on, but then shortly after it started up again (maybe it got loose?). I drove to the HD store and got a new intake boot(part 27443-00y). Put it on and the same issue. I took it off and put it on again and same issue. I bought the o-ring that goes between the intake and the engine, I will try replacing that soon.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I getting really close to taking it to a shop. Please let me know if there's any more info I can give. |

The bike will backfire and sometimes so hard that the carb pops off the intake boot. This has happened with both boots. |

Post these questions in the Blast section.
Check:
plugs (not oiled up)
Primary chain (not too tight/loose)
Boot (not seated incorrectly and letting air in)
Carb (Do not take it apart. Maybe flush it w/Seafoam or other carb cleaner)
Jets: (What is in there? - Should be 45/175)
Again: post this in the Blast section there are many much more knowledgeable Blast owners there & they are generally really helpful!.

As B-10 says, try checking in at the Thumper Forum for folks who really know their way around all things Blast.
As to your current problem, first get hold of a Blast service manual. If anything like the tuber and XB ones, it will be excellent. Most valuable tool in the box. Then look through the intake and carb sections. Lack of top end power, especially with backfiring through the carb at large throttle openings, is usually a sign of a very lean mixture.
If it starts and runs well below 25-30mph, then start looking for blocked main jet, float level correctly set, something limiting fuel flow like clogged fuel line or petcock, ect.
