An archive search found very little info about ECMDroid. I know that other tuning software exists but ECMDroid seems like it could be a pretty handy tool to have since I can run it from my Android phone. The price was sure right.

There seems to be no documentation available for ECMDroid, so I figured I'd start a new thread to try and collect some info here for me and others interested in using it.

To connect, I bought a Bluetooth adapter from an ebay seller in TN and once it arrived, was able to immediately link ECMDroid to my XB9S's ECM.

So far I have only done a TPS reset which seems to have been successful. But, man... I have lots more questions.

Anybody out there reading this that is already using ECMDroid with good results that can help me figure out how to use it?

Thanks in advance!

I'd love to know more myself, also picked up an ebay bluetooth adapter, and it connects to the bluetooth modem, but ecmdroid just pops an error: "read failed, socket might closed or timed out, read ret: -1", which it gives me whether or not the adapter is actually on. I have yet to contact the seller, it actually ID'd my ecm earlier, but came up with other connection issues, and I was curious if anyone else played with it.

edit: I have super high hopes that this will develop some torque-like app functionality, and I can replace my dash with a newer phone of the weather-resistant flagship variety...

+1 Phoi. I'm tempted to develop it, but I am still working through the heated grip controller. So many projects, so little time, and it would take significant time.

I got the bluetooth modem linked in the other thread, burned it up because I crossed my eyes reading pin numbers, then ordered a second and it worked great.

Phoi, that is the same message it throws for me if the bike does not have the ignition key turned to "On" AND the kill switch "On". It shows the BT as paired but isn't actually able to connect to the BT adapter.

If you have your bike "On" then yeah, maybe there is something wrong with the BT connector. However, you might want to try just reconnecting a few times in a row and see if anything changes. Mine occasional gives me a "Timed Out" message when connecting, but then connects OK the next time I retry.

Also, sometimes the Data Channels window readouts freeze. Shaking my phone or hitting the "back screen" button and reselecting Data Channels seems to wake it up. Moving the phone closer to BT adapter sometimes works. I'm going to ask the ebay seller about this before passing any judgement on the adapter.

The ECMDroid TPS Reset took me awhile to figure out. Reading on the forums I got confused and thought the channel called "TPS Voltage" was what I needed to look at for throttle plate adjustment. However, that channel read 1.19v no matter what I did with the idle screw. Twisting the throttle open increased it, IIRC, to something like 3.8v at wide open. It finally dawned on me this was the wrong channel.

Looking around, I found a different channel called "TPD" which seemed to be what is needed to reset the plate angle correctly after a TPS reset on my '03 XB9S.

Here's how I did it:

1-With key and kill button switched on, bit motor not running, connect to ECM Droid.
2-Find the Data Channel screen and select TPD Channel and RPM Channel.
3-Toggle the "Live Data On" button.
4-Back out the idle screw until the TPD channel readout drops to 0º, then back it out 2 more turns.
5-Change screens to the one with a "TPS Reset" button, and hit TPS Reset. Once it indicates TPS Reset was done successfully, hit OK.
6-Go back to the Data Channels window.
7-Turn the idle screw clockwise until it shows 5.5º to 6º in the TPD channel.
8-Start the bike. Adjust the idle screw until you get your desired idle speed (via the Data Channel not your tach).

I believe I did this all correctly. Please correct me if I got any of this wrong!

yeah, everything was "on" except the motor, and I tried with the motor on too for good measure, several times. seller was quick to respond, said that with the given error the bluetooth module was probably bad, and to send it back and he'd replace it.

if that resolves everything, great, if not, I'll probably still use the wiring and case, and shop around for more reliable components, and/or try contacting the xopti folks for one of their modules. the fact that it's possible at all has me unreasonably hyped.
