I blew up my 12R motor at the track last year, the jury is still out on how but I found a broken oil pump gear. When I removed the rear cylinder the largest piece was about the size of a golf ball and there was shrapnel holding the valves open. The crankshaft is also bent to the left and twisted about 30 degrees. Needless to say the rear cylinder is now trash.

After some research in pricing between stock parts and aftermarket kits my decision is almost made. I am not really interested in more power or speed, just reliability and longevity, here is what I am thinking:

08 Crank, I know case work has to be done
1250 big bore kit, (Not sure which brand)

Please let me know your experiences with these mods or any advise with, it will be appreciated. I am having my local shop do the work, they have a few Buell Techs with some awesome Tubers so hopefully take care of me.

I have pics of the damage if anyone is interested.

No brainer. One of those companies has the big fin cylinders that cool better and the other one doesn't.

actually that is not 100% true. the big fin cylinders do cool better when the bike is not moving but when the bike is moving the rear cylinders actually run hotter with the big fins than the small fins due to the larger fins on the front cylinder blocking air flow to the rear one. So I guess the question is do you like to do a lot of parades or do you like to actually ride? : )

I see the OP is a Marine. Just to let you know NRHS does give military discounts and i am a retired Army NCO myself.

Well, it's a track only bike... Or it was, I'm gonna need to break in the motor again so I will need to put it on the street or waste a track day.
