Ive got a 99 M2 cyclone on a rigid chopper, when i got the bike i pulled the baffles from the exhaust. Its been a while, but now I've got a tapping in the top end that is consistent with the RPMs. When the bikes cold it sounds and runs like crap; once its warm, it runs good but the tapping is still there. Could i have thrown the valves out of adjustment by pulling the baffles? Ive read a little bit about the lifters being a possible cause, but I'm not real clear on the specific problem or a solution. This is my first Buell motor, if anyone can help out it would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

Hey there Buddy. I hope you are doing fine. Changing the exhaust would not make those problems. I have had a couple of the Buells and they really work fine and run strong. Yea I deleted the BS, I should be more serious here.

If the engine is basically stock with the original cams and hydraulic lifters, I'd say that there is likely a lifter with a stuck roller that is skidding on its cam. The hydraulic lifters have rollers with needle bearings. Sometimes the needle bearings can pick up debris or wear unevenly ultimately jamming the roller. There is no adjustment.
If you can isolate the noise to a particular cam by pointing a rubber hose from your ear to the base of the pushrod tubes or the rocker arms to see if one is particularly noisy, that'll give you a starting point. |

Try some Seafoam. Run it for a bit, then change the oil. |

Thanks sparky, a lot of help. will i need any special tools to do the job myself, or is it something i need to let the shop take care of? I grew racing moto and wrenching on our own bikes so I'm not totally clueless... |
