Hi, My bike was running weird and I had someone fix it for me. He told me water had gotten into the gas tank and that the gas tank o-ring was old and needed to be replaced. His instructions to do so were "If you remove the gas filler cap and turn it over, you will see the old ring on the outer edge. It's crusty and cracked. Just clean the area and the tank mouth and pop the new one on"

Is it really that easy? By "gas filler cap" does he mean the thing on top of the gas tank where I use the key to open it and put the gas in?

Sorry I seem so clueless, the bike is new to me and I am a a female who is really mechanically challenged. Thanks in advance}}}

Water in the fuel happens. Good on the person who fixed the problem. And yes, the thing on top of the tank you remove so you can put fuel in it is the one.

Pull it out, turn it over, and look just under the big (top) surface. There is a skinny black 'rubber band' there; that is the O ring.

Not sure if your bike/cap is the same, but the part number for that O ring on an X-1 is P0156.2.

And having a cracked one will allow water to seep in, esp if the bike sits in the rain.

Hope this helps, Dave

I may have an extra one laying around. PM me and I will look for it when I get back by the barn.

ORIGINAL POSTER HERE-

Thanks for the quick response to my question. Sounds pretty easy and I will tackle that task this weekend. I already bought the part for a ridiculously high price, but you know, live and learn. And thank you to Kilroy to offering to send me one. Good Karma on you!
