Can you shift, and does it roll around in neutral, with the motor not running?

First: Make sure the side stand is "up" when you let the clutch out in first. (The Blast has a side stand safety switch that cuts the engine if you try to pull away with the stand down)
Second: Check the cylindrical black "boot" that links the carburetor to the bike for leaks. (This is a known problem-if it's sat for a while it probably needs replacing.)
Third: Go to the "Blast" section of badweb & post your questions there (They will be seen by a lot of Blast specific riders/experts)
Fourth: Buy the service manual.
Good luck.

New Guy,

Dennis Kirk has the Blast Service Manual for 33% off right now. I think their current price is about $42.00.

https://www.denniskirk.com/h-d/service-manual.p361 901.prd/361901.sku

Dennis Kirk will ship the manual almost instantly.

If it is just the engine cutting out and the sidestand is down (or the switch screwed up), then what britch said. If it isn't that, then things could get a lot more interesting....

If that doesn't work what else could it be? a busted Detent clip, a stripped stator nut? Seems ridiculous, but it's just what I was told..

There are lots of spinny bits in the transmission that have to turn to get power from the motor to the belt. If one of them was wedged, it would let the bike roll around in neutral but stall it when you tried to release the clutch.

Does the bike try and move forward at all? And does it sound like the engine is getting overwhelmed? Or more like the engine is just being switched off?

You could try it the other around as another test... pop out the spark plug, put it in 5th gear, and try and rotate the wheel to excercise the crank. You will hear the piston sucking air in and out through the spark plug hole.

(And if you get it on a stand and turn hard enough, you can rotate the motor in 5th with your hands even with the spark plug still in).

It just sounds like the engine is under extreme load, it's more like a dieing scream for help. XD, the guy I purchased it from said he had replaced the clutch and about a month or so and about 200 miles of riding it locked up on him, could he have dropped a Bering through the trapdoor? And got caught in one of them little spinny bits you were talking about? I'd hate to have to split the case... thanks, Dakota

Sounds like you will have to split the cases. : (

You can pull off the primary cover and remove the clutch assembly / stator bell / primary chain as a unit. It probably won't tell you anything you don't already know, but it will have to come of anyway if you are going to split the cases.

Another thing. Should I try to counter rotate the wheel? To try and dislodge anything caught in the gears? what should I do first?

You can remove the primary just to make sure it's not something stupid like pieces of clutch or primary, but I can just about guarantee that isn't the case, as the primary always spinning regardless of if the clutch is in or out.

On the upside, you are only $40 into it. : )
