Hello. First post here. I tried the search button and did find some info. But can anyone give me the reason for such a long vent tube on the xb's? This is my first separate engine/trans oil bike.

I'm building a cafe style XB and really would like to at least shorten it considerably.

As long as I leave it open, have the fluid level set correctly and no problems with the trans.... I can't figure why fluid would come out of it?

My other bikes had a vent, but nothing like this.

School me.... thanks in advance for any info.

Probably just to make sure it stays off the rear tire when that crank seal goes.

Even where it was at on a tuber, I did a nice donut leaving a stop sign in my neighborhood when mine went. My neighbor watched the whole thing, and I just gave him my best "I meant to do that" look and limped back to the garage...

^Thanks. That is what I was thinking. I've read about the crank seal failing and leakage. Guess the engine oil flows into the gearbox and overfills it? Causing it to leak out the vent tube due to excessive oil?

More the crankcase pressure I think... it pressurizes the primary instead of going only out the breather lines, thereby spraying a drooling mist of tranny fluid out the tube at the worst possible moments (higher RPM and bike in motion).
