I own a 2002 Thunderbolt S3T and I love it, but the one thing I do not like about the older Buell models are the ugly big air intake boxes. Now I know that Eric changed to the DDFI in 2001 I think and it is a exceptional fuel delivery system (although I do think it should use two O2 senors or relocating the one to where the header pipes merge into one for better air readings), but because it is the DDFI system I can not find any aftermarket air intakes for this engines. Sooo, after taking mine apart for a closer examination of it's components and how it works, I do not see why I could not replace it with a Wimmer air intake and simple drill the proper hole size for the IAT sensor grommet to install the IAT sensor, or is there a reason there is so much empty space inside the air intake box around the air snorkel tube? To me it also looks as if one could also just modify the the air intake using just the snorkel tube and make a good bracket to hold the tube in place and attaching K&N air filter on it. Any and all advice welcome.
