I've been waiting for my stock 6-pot pads to wear out forever, finally approaching the wear marks on them after several years of hoarding the ZTL2 hardware. I've got the fully loaded ZTL2 caliper from American Sport Bike (anybody know what pads they might be?), the brake line, the lever + MC, and the EBR 6mm rotor + hardware. I'm a daily commuter and spirited canyon rider - no track days for me. The stock rotor has more than 5mm so I'm hesitant to just go and replace it without need. Is it a dumb idea to replace the caliper and pads and continue to reuse the old rotor? I'd just hate to see it go to waste since it has so much life left on it. Service limit is 4.5mm, I believe. |

The pads it comes with the caliper are the stock pads that every ZTL2 XB/1125 has. They work fine, but obviously some will prefer the feel of various aftermarket pads. The caliper and pads will be fine on the old rotor. Personally I would install the caliper, then next time you have the wheel off, do the rotor swap. The rotors last virtually forever, so you may never get around to installing it otherwise. |

I'm a little concerned about the contact patch of the ZTL2 pads not matching that of the old 6-pot system. If it's bad enough, there could be uneven contact of the new pads caused by them contacting the rotor in a place where the 6-pot pads never did. The issue being that there is some wear on the rotor, although it's not worn out. I haven't done a test fitting or taken the bike off the road yet however, so I don't know if that's an issue. |
