Author Message   Super55 Posted on Thursday, February 14, 2013 - 07:16 pm:        Just bought my first motorcycle, a 2008 Ulysses. Went to check the oil after riding it home from the dealership. Per the manual, I did so on the sidestand, while warm. As I unscrewed the dipstick oil poured out. Forgive me for being captain obvious, but this leads me to believe either the former owner or dealership overfilled it. I've checked it hot several times since and oil is still running out. Will having this much oil in my bike damage it? And do I need to let it run out until it stops to avoid damaging my engine from oil pressure that is too high. I am about 1500 miles from my next oil change. The old procedure does not work on 2008 and up bikes.   Britchri10 Posted on Friday, February 15, 2013 - 08:07 am:        I have a 2008XP. I check the oil with the bike on the sidestand with a hot engine, engine NOT running. Never had oil pour out of it & I always fill it to mid-point on dipstick. never had a low oil light. I don't have access to the manual right now but yours sounds overfilled if you are checking it with the engine OFF. Yeah, I bet they overfilled it. Its not a carb'd bike so its not like there is a float stuck filling the crankcase with gas. And if the crank seal goes, you loose oil into the transmission, you don't gain it. Keep an eye on co-workers who like playing head games as well. It has happened.
