My blast dies when I coast from fifth gear on the freeway. Today it happened twice within 30 minutes. It also died 2 weeks ago in between shifts while getting on the freeway. It does backfire some and has a rebuilt engine with 200-300 miles on the rebuilt engine. It runs ok otherwise.
Any help is greatlty appreciated.

coast do you mean while not on the throttle? Is this the only time you experience problems? if not when else

When I say coast I mean no throttle, clutch squeezed in. yes, this is the only time I experience the problem. It has never happened on the street, only on the freeway. Its like the bike doesn't like coming down from a sustained high rpm.

It's easier to troubleshoot things when you have as many details as possible. 3 main things Air gas and spark. lets see what you can cross reference and eliminate 2 out of 3

any aftermarket parts? air filter/intake setup jets carb etc...? and with the rebuilt engine did you put those miles on it or get it like that? did this start happening when you first started freeway riding at high rpm's or did it start out of nowhere?

I believe its gas and air that are the problem.It's like it's starved or flooded after coming down from a sustained high RPM.
Aftermarket v&h exhaust, k&n filter. Not sure about any jetted carb or anything else. I bought the bike with those mods.

They put about 50 miles on the rebuilt engine. When I got it back it broke down on the freeway the first time. Then, they took it back, replaced a fuel vent line and put another 100 miles on the rebuilt engine. Iv'e put maybe 50 miles (tops) on it.

Sorry, when I say they I mean sweetwater harley davidson. I bought the bike in late october and have had nothing but problems since I bought it.

I just got back from sweetwater harley davidson. They said my ignition module was going bad. Anyone in southern california thinking on buying a bike stay away from sweetwater harley davidson. Horrible place to spend your money. You might even be told you're riding the bike wrong when it breaks down, like they told me.

Ignition modules do fail on the Blast model, for what that's worth.

Hope they fixed it.

They gave me a full refund on that piece of crap. What a horrible experience it's been owning a buell

Sorry about your experience. Sounds more like a horrible dealership experience than anything else. The bike is just a machine, and "qualified" people should have been able to fix it for you if you weren't able to fix it yourself. That being said, it was a used vehicle of unknown(?) history. Don't paint "Buell" with such a broad brush. There are several folks here with 100K plus miles and no major equipment issues.

Have to add my 2 cents, there are crap bikes for every manufacturer.
That said, most "crap" bikes are due to abuse, bad or no maintenance and no commitment by either owner or dealer.
Post SOHC cam honda's were by and large Horseshit, suzuki and yamaha both had their share of lemons.
British bikes in general leaked like the proverbial sieve and broke down with monotonous regularity, harleys the same to a point and even beemers had their share of recalls.
Point is it could have been sorted by someone with the integrity and knowledge to do so.
I am new to Buells myself and have one with a serious engine problem, i have had plenty of "those things are shite" but i am undaunted, knowing that i will fix it properly and have a stunning , exclusive machine ,that i intend to keep till i leave this mortal coil.
So dont be so quick to slag off the Buells, chances are good, you could have grief with any second hand machine you buy.
Says something about the dealer that the refunded you on the bike, either they are good honest dealers or they know the sold you a lemon!!

Yes, I agree with you both andersonhdj and kiroy. I think I'm just a type of person that really tries to learn from my mistakes. I am now in the market for a brand new motorcycle. Additionally, my last experience with harley/ buell left such a bad taste in my mouth that I don't want to go anywhere near one. Maybe it is just my subconcious negatively associating brands I have bad experiences with to the highest degree. I remember every time I would look down at the speedo I would see the buell and harley davidson lettering shortly followed by a break down or some other problem. Thanks for letting me vent a little.
