i bought my 2nd bike about a month ago and love it....but i got a few questions

bike in question 09 firebolt xb12R, 12,000 miles

1.. bike has a k&n air filter with a hawk exhaust........as far as i no the ecm is stock....the bike back fires alot on decel (i dont mind just dont wanna be hurting anything)

should i do something about this?

2. i have the "common" stumble if i blip the throttle too fast....any ideas to help with that?

3. the last few days it seems to run like crap when cold....idles a little funny and sometimes dies....once its warmed up its fine and also if u get it gas (when cold) it goes.......any ideas?

4. what ecm program/software should i use for my 09 Firebolt XB12R?

and is it the same cord for all 04-2010 firebolts? if not what cord is for me?

thanks!!!

PS spark plugs are on my Christmas list so if i dont get them then ill buy them after.

You'll find that all Harley engines/transmissions are cold blooded. Until a good heat soak, they will run like crap in cold weather.

If you indeed have the stock ECM with a modified air intake/exhaust, that could create problems. The decel issue would be one of those.

What a race ECM does is change your fuel maps to compensate for additional fuel required for better performance.

Also, make sure you are running your drive belt "scary loose". That is, you want to preload your bike (you sitting on it) and make sure the drive belt has about 3 inches of travel when deflected halfway between the front/rear pulleys.

Most of your issues are due to the ECM. The bike comes stock with an ECM programmed with the stock muffler, and with EPA regulations in mind. Getting a Race ECM will get you one that is programmed with your muffler in mind, and allows the bike to run the way it should run, not the way the government wants.

Disregard what Two_seasons says regarding your belt, that advise is for the older models with a manual tension adjustment. Your bike never requires any belt adjustment or maintenance.

Froggy is right about the belt. Thanks for the catch. XB's aren't my "zone".

Under the seat. A race ECM is marked Race ECM. A normal ECM might have been remapped by a previous owner, no easy well to tell.

The ECM is located under the front fairing plastic above the headlights on your Firebolt. If you take a look at it, it will have RACE USE ONLY engraved in it if it is a legit Race ECM, just like in the picture on the link. If you don't see that and there are just stickers with seemingly meaningless numbers, it is the stock ECM. It is possible the ECM was reconfigured using 3rd party software, unfortunately there is no way to know, but if the exhaust is popping it is either 100% stock or they did a terrible job programming it.
