Anyone use the Longer Mobil1 M1-209 oil filter?

It has the same OEM specs as stock (3/4" x 16 tpi threads, 8 psi by-pass valve, anti-drain back valve ) but is longer. I was thinking it could help in oil cooling.

I'm asking around to see if there might be a problem with the longer size. Seems to be working fine for me the last 2 oil changes.

no its not, Harley has a longer filter that has the correct micron rating for the correct flow and its actually cheaper than the standard filter.

My XB12X that i got a few months ago is about due for an oil change, the previous owner has a reuseable oil filter on it (I don't remember the brand.), any pros or cons on keeping it or just going to a throw away oil filter?

Shaggster, the fact that Harley has another filter doesn't prove that this filter isn't a good filter to use.

The only factual information I can contribute is that the bigger filter on my M2 would spin off more easily, and so needed a clamp to make sure it stayed in place. And that it made a heck of a mess of my riding gear when it did spin loose on River Road at 3pm on a Saturday. ; )

They were discussed on and off in the archives, you can search there.

My intuition and what I remember from the discussions was that the concern with them was more of an issue that it was hard to recoup your cost, not that they didn't work.

Of course that was when you could get a good WalMart SuperTech filter off the shelf for $3 that was actually made by Champion Labs (who make really good filters). Disposable oil filters seem to be getting much more expensive these days.

I did a search on the archives with no luck, maybe I didn't go back far enough. I went back to my files and got out a copy I kept of the ad off craigslist and he said that it is an K&R Stainless steel mesh reusable filter. It's crome or polished ss so at least it looks good from the outside.

After looking For a K&R filter with no luck, it must be a K&N filter it looks the same as mine.

The one I bought from Al came in Scotts performance Packaging. I went to that to help alleviate the heat issue. They claim to have a lot more flow than paper. I went there to see if it actually would help with heat issues and stabilize the temps through out the lube system. bout 1500 miles on set up and with some data logging for changes in fueling, timing, and resetting the fan on settings the bike seems a lot better. None of these changes were all at once and yes there is a cumulative effect of all but the bike is running better than it has in a long time.
Interesting in that Jagg oil coolers has the oil going to filter before cooler and our buells put oil thru pump to cooler then filter then motor. Just saying.
