The other night on the freeway a guy was flashing his lights at me and when he pulled up along side me he pointed to the back of my XB. I pulled over and noticed that the rear running light was not working. It would work when I pulled the brake but go completely off when I let go. I checked the connections and changed the bulb and now I have the opposite problem. The brake light is always on but it doesnt get any brighter when i apply the brakes. I put a jumper on the front brake switch to see if the switch was bad but nothing happened when I bypassed it. Does anybody know what I can do from here? Also, there are two filaments in the bulb, one is straight and one is curled. I assumed the curled one would be the running light?? Is that correct or is it the other way around? | ||

It sounds as if you swapped the wires when checking the connections, that's why it is now always on. Get a multimeter and check voltages on each wire when applying brakes. The curled filament is most likely brake. It has a longer piece of wire therefore emitting more light when energized. |
