I have a 02 X1 lightning. sat for 20 months. drained oil,new filter, fresh tank of shell 93oct. batt was dead. replaced it.Also new plugs. has a vance &hines can. a race ECM. runs really rough (750rpm cold) between 1000 &2000 it feels like its only running on one cylinder. After warm up it purrs like a kitten around 3000rpm. it will never start at a high idle. I ordered the cable for ECMSPY. I have the program (1.12.27) installed on my laptop. can anyone give advice. did sitting for so long erase the ECM data???? willing to share program with anyone with a decent stock or close to stock map to load?? and tell me how to do it. it only has 6,000 miles on it. really nice shape. please email me at slincourt@gmail.com

ECM data is stored in ROM.

First step, I think, would be to do a TPS reset using ECMspy.

You'll want to have the bike up to operating temperature, to do the TPS reset. First, open the throttle screw all the way out at the throttle plate (screw not touching), Second, do the TPS reset using ECMspy NOW, Third, set the idle screw for 5.6 degrees as indicated on ECMspy (don't forget to activate the "keys" in the top left corner for LIVE data), Forth, start the bike and adjust the idle using your idle screw for 1100rpm.

After you do that, we'll go from there.

Next I would check for intake manifold seal leaks. They harden with age, plenty of info on this board for checking and changing the seals. Good luck not too hard a fix.

When your cable comes, do a tips reset like mentioned above. Also do an afv reset to 100 for good measure. Your cable should come with some maps, including the stock one. But honestly loading the stock map with your pipe is only going to make it run even worse....way to lean.
Check tone sure you don't have any exhaust leaks. Youll probably have some popping on decel if you do, but this can cause some funny issues on these bikes. Check that your grounds are clean and secure, as well as both battery terminals.
Take a look at your harness to make sure no wires are broke or worm downand grounding out somewhere.
Look at your ECM and make sure you don't see any cracks in it, even hairline cracks can cause all sorts of issues.
That's all the basic stuff I can think of right now. Good luck!
