Rear brake on a 2008 1125R was sticking and I didn't have time to fix it but enough just to take the whole brake system off, with the intent of bleeding and refilling the system.
On the ride to school (with no rear brake) the speedo basically stopped working. The only thing that was working was the brightness adjuster and tachometer. I did notice that the tachometer needle lit up at 5k revs and flashed in a "-.." pattern between 4 and 5 revs until it dropped below 3 revs.
Speedo, Odo, gear selector, and bike temp are not working, so reinstalled the brake and plugged it back in only to learn that the brake/horn fuse blows as soon as the bike is turned on and the speedo still doesn't work, but the bike does turn on and start right up.
Any suggestions or lead to a thread covering this?? Any help is much appreciated! |

What specifically did you remove? What else did you do to the bike prior to this incident?
If you removed the wires going to the rear brake switch, what did you do with those wires?
From what you described that's not working, I'd guess that the orange wire (brake/horn fuse, VSS, frt/rr bk sw) at the brake switch is either shorted to ground or some other wire.
That wire also goes to the LH handlebar controls, so there might also be coincident wiring issues with the wires in the wire bundle around the steering neck. I believe there should be some threads describing troubleshooting that problem. |

I removed the RR brake caliper, line, and master cylinder including disconnecting the brake sensor. The side of the sensor line leading into the bike I just left unplugged.
You mean the orange wire from the rr brake sensor?? So the brake light circuit IS linked with the VSS?? |

If by brake sensor you mean brake switch, yes, and yes they are linked according to the schematic in the FSM.
FWIW, disconnecting the rear brake switch by itself won't do anything re affecting the rest of the bike's electricals except, of course, operating the brake light. So with that said, you must have other unrelated wiring or component issues that need to be resolved. |
