on my 99 M2. Local dealership has records of the recall being done in this bike in 2000, with a new shock. I am the 3rd owner. I tried to take the shock reinforcement cone off the rear to adjust the preload. When I loosened the front 'Hoseclamp' the shock extended out of the cone about a half inch, you can see the line in the picture.

That is the intermediate "fix" on the recall shock. That is the original, recalled shock still on the bike, with the repair kit installed. At the time, folks that weren't happy with this kit could get an actual replacement shock for the recall. Ddn't know if you would still be able to do that, it is worth a call to a dealer.
