I've been riding on the street for years wearing boots, armored leather coat, armored textile/denim pants, gloves, helmet, etc. I've been to a couple of track days wearing said gear. However, it was when someone rented the track out, so it was more or less a free for all with no rules/tech. I am wanting to start going to the local MCRA events. With that said, my pants won't pass tech. I am in the market for a leather suit. I've got about $300-350 to spend. Would I be better off buying a used suit that's a well known brand, or a no-name new suit for the same amount of money. I am guessing the former. It's most likely the same as every other hobby of mine- a good used piece is always better than a new off-brand. However, I don't know a thing about leather track suits and therefore don't know if that same rule holds true. My guess is that the off-brands have poor stitching and cheaper and/or thinner leather. When it comes to safety gear- cheaper (usually) isn't better.

Nevermind- found a deal on a used set of Kobe leathers. Not a top of the line brand, but certainly not bottom of the barrel either. Thick leather, in pretty good shape, and what I believe to be a great price.

Where did you find the deal on the leathers.

I am gearing up to do a Track day at Barbers motor Speedway in AL.

I need to find cheap but good quality gear as well.

Boots
Gloves
Suit
Helmet (dont know if I should get a clear visor or a tented one)

I've got a Kobe jacket. Have worn it pretty much every time I'm on the bike, and have done so for 10 yrs. The thing is still in great shape. I've lost some zipper pulls, but some nice cordage works just as well. Kobe makes some good stuff, good choice - enjoy.
