Are you using the original factory bolt?

I just had a similar problem. One of the kickstand bolts broke off. I see that to get to it I have to remove the muffler but it also looks like there is an oil line that may have to be moved? Re: the bolt, I have never had good luck w/EZ out. any ideas? Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

Go to an Industrial Supply Wholesaler and get a left hand twist drill bit of the appropriate size to drill out the broken bolt. Punch a center with a center punch and then spray the bolt with PT Blaster everyday for as often as possible.

Make sure you have the electric drill set to "REVERSE" and have the RPM as low as possible. Chances are that broken bolt will back out with the drill.

The same wholesaler should have Grade 8 Bolts in the correct size.

Thank you Kenny!! Right now I'm working on pulling the muffler. Looks a bit convoluted compared to my other bikes where the muffs are just hanging out in the wind. I appreciate your help.

My local harbor freight was now stocking the left handed drill bits on the shelf as well... if that is easier to get too.

Start small and drill straight, and keep bumping it to bigger bits, until hopefully it just backs off with the drill at some point.

But if the left-hand drill bit doesn't work, DON'T use a regular "easy-out". Use a shallow grip screw extractor, like what you see here:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/120/2825/=qr32il

They call it the "Screw Extractors for Hard-to-Reach Areas" on that page. They work the best and aren't likely to break off inside the bolt like "easy-outs" are wont to do.

Gentlemen...we have had success!!! The left handed bits did their job, it took a lot though. What I did to insure a 'straight' drilling I enlisted the help of an engineer friend and we made a pretty cool little jig and it worked great. I want to thank you guys for your help.

One more question, I don't have a service manual yet, what are the torque specs for the kickstand bolts? And I did get grade 8 bolts and should I loctite them?
Thanks again,
Paul

Paul,

When you get a chance take a pic of the jig that you improvised to simplify drilling the broken bolt.

The pic may be helpful to another Buell rider.

Hi Kenny,
My engineer friend took it home but I'll get it back tomorrow and take pictures. Good idea.
