Everybody:

I've got a busted front fender on my black '96 S1. What fenders from other years/models would be a direct replacement?

No, I don't want Carbon Fiber.

Can anyone post some detailed pics on how they cut down the Stock S1 CF Rear Fender.
I have a couple ideas, but wanna see what other people have done.

I bought one used for a song, and would like some pointers on doing this.

Thanks all

Road_Kingthingie,

Any fender off an inverted front will work. Be that S1, S2, S3 and X1.

have a new 2001 x1 and will be removing the left side plastic air scoop and stock air box soon when i install a forcewinder xr2 intake. i'm not really into carbon fiber, and less into shelling out $270.00+ for carbon fiber tanks inserts to close the gaps. i'm thinking about running the x1 without any tanks inserts. will it look goofy? is anyone running an x1 without tank inserts? does anyone know if there are less expensive, non-carbon fiber (possibly plastic) tank inserts available? thanx!

Y2k01x1:
You have a very good question there about a plastic insert rather than CF. I removed the airbox on my bike and it leaves a ugly spot where the real tank shows from underneath the cover. I put the topic on my personal list of things to research. I'll let you know if I find anything.

I left the scoop on the left side on because it does have the function of helping to cool the rear cylinder. Buells do tend to run a little hotter than their cousins.

airborne,

asb has fiberglass tank inserts but they're not much cheaper than the CF ones.

you're right, the buells do tend to run hot, but my x1 seems to heat up more when i'm in slow, heavy traffic or stopped at a light. seems like the air scoop and the stock air box would tend to trap heat in and around the heads and cylinders when the bike is not moving. i'm hoping that once the bike is moving, the air flow will keep the temp at a manageable level like it does (usually) on so many hi-perf harley motors.

anyhows, i just can't stand the looks of either so i'm just gonna have to try and see. it's only parts. besides, i have the nuclear blue frame and the more of it i can expose, the better. it's awesome!

Yzk01x1: Oil cooler. I'm getting one after I purchase the Power Commander. Check my post in the Carb and injection area about the cheapo air box I did. Basically the airbox outer skin is removed. This helps let some of the heat out.

Folks,

I'm lookin' to put a '99 or newer S3 fairing on my X1 (and no, I can't stop fiddling with fairings).

Anyone know of any good, used S3 fairings out there?

Thanks,

Dave

Drandall,

I've once heard of a fellow with an S3 and he put an X1 front on it. Now there's this fellow with an X1 and wants to put an S3 front on it. Gee maybe them guys should get together. No but wait that's you. hehehehe Sorry but just couldn't pass it up. Good luck.

Jim, ah Jim, er Jim you be nice to Dave now. Just because we are of the fairing challenged variety, er well I was and now I'm not.
If you'll go back a few moments you will remember that Dave had an S3 like so many of our brethren and wanted to fit X-1 front end goodies. After a brief stint he reverted back to the S3 goodies, but then bought an X-1. So tell me, what's wrong with an X-1 disguised as an X-3? Just because you have been working 7 days a week and haven't had the time to visit your Buelligan Bros. here in EVV to see what real nirvana looks like (Stripe'r). A little reminder Striper
Oh yeah the Bro going S3 to X1 had a 98 S3 (Travis you around?) Time to clean off the bugs from today's excursions.

Gents,

I thought I'd catch some poop about this fairing venture :) I have an red-stripe, so I know it'll look good! I don't think I'm man-enough to paint the windscreen too, but it's unique! I will look into striping the windscreen, but not painting it red: hmmmm.

The only things I didn't like about my S3 were the seat-height, and that there was no removable frame piece to aid in changing the drive belt. So, putting the S3 fairing on my X1 will fix all that :) I also believe the extra weight of the S3 fairing will improve front-end grip on the X1. And, the S3 fairing aids in stability (one of the consequences of putting the X1 front-end on the S3 was a lessening of stability).

Bob Gussenhoven, who is -- I believe -- the first person to put an S3 fairing on an X1, is gonna give me a hand. Here's to another red-stripe X3! I'm with Neil :)

I also might even be crazy enought to put an S3 tank on the X1, and have an S1WL/X1/S3!

Hey there. I actually have a 97, but close enough. But it does have a bunch of 98 parts on it (Seat, T-storm Heads, fuel tank)

I have not started my conversion yet. So, Dave, if you want to sell any of your parts, I would buy them from you.

travis@dnalive.com

BTW, what didn't you like about the S3 seat height? Was it too tall for the X1's goodies & lower bars?

Thanks

Travis,

I'm confused as to which conversion you're doing. I sold all my X1 parts last winter.

When I put the X1 fairing on the S3 with the Crossroads bars, the reach was REALLY long. If I wanted race an S3, the bars would work, but it was at least as extreme as a '95 Triumph speed triple.

To me the M2/S3 seat heights are too tall. I prefer bikes like my old '91 900SS where you sit 'in' the bike more than 'on-top' of it. The X1 is more like this.

Tootles,

Dave

I see.

to make things clearer, i have a 97 S3. I want to put on the X1 fairing/whatnot. just to change the look of the bike, if nothing else. Ive had it 4 yrs.

I am also piecing together an extra set of bodywork and doing some mods to thopse pieces. When finished, I will post pictures. Maybe some while in progress.

Neil, Dave,

Hey I just took the easy way out. I still love my 99S3 but like the streetfighter look. Went out an got an 96 S1. Gee best of both worlds...Now depends on where I'm going as to what I'll ride. Neil, stripe'r really looks good. I'd go with the taller windscreen if I was you. Have a great evening.

OVERTIME, PAID OVERTIME, WHATS THAT??????? I haven't seen paid overtime in 25 years! Sheesh must be nice, I don't even get "comp" time. My only saving grace is I do utilize my salaried time keeping methods of "nice days= early off, bad days=late off". Gives me a few extra hours when the weather is best.
Jim, what time are we meeting at Denny's?

At this time I don't have cash for two bikes. I doubt I'll ever well the X1, but I really would like a new-style Beemer R1150RT for commuting. Then I'd make the Buell vera sporty.

Hi All,

Has anyone eliminated/modified their M2 cylone tailight assembly? It seems like it would be a fairly straight forward procedure to trim the basic bracket detail part down, and re-do the holes for license plate mounting. Then if I elimanted the side plate red reflectors, it seems like it would really clean up the lines at the back of my bike.

Also I have seen the kits for taillight bracket elimination for the S1 but I wonder whether or not the tailpeice on my Y2K M2 would be the same for mounting?!

I hope I'm postiong to the right area (seemed most appropriate).

I'm installing the seat, tail, and tank from a '97 M2 on my 2000 model. I ordered most of the needed hardware from my dealer; but when I tried to order the pieces to "bolt" down the back of the fuel tank, the parts came up as "obsolete" in the dealer's computer. We assumed that the retention plates (61752-95YA) that are on my 2000 M2 had "superseded" the '97 hardware . . . but these seem to be too wide and the narrow front part of the seat won't fit down over them. Can anyone help me to locate the proper pieces to bolt down the '97 fuel tank

Arvel,

Did you e-mail Sport Twin with your request? I could not find the paint for '95 S2 kickstand and they sent back this message:

If the kickstand is the same color as the swingarm, then the paint is Mercedes
Silver. The part # is 96014-94YYR, we don't stock that color but your local shop should be able to order it for you.

Send your e-mail request to sales@sporttwin.com
