Hi all , I have a problem with my friends 9R that the fan does not work.
Bike has had the Race ECM since near new.
Here is what I have done so far;
1st I can ground the fan and it runs.
2. I can use ECM Spy to run the fan via diagnostic.
3. For the fun of it I swapped the Engine temp sensor for a new one as the engine temp in ECN Spy seems real low when running compared to my 12 ( about 60 - 80 C ).
4. I have checked the earths .
5 I have checked the continuity on the Pink/ yellow wire from the sensor at the ECM. The resistance there also seems correct for the temperature.

Any Ideas where to look from here ? I am thinking it may be the ECM ?

Everything is working , it just appears that the ECM is not registering the correct engine temp and hense thinks the fan is not required ?

Can I use a stock 07 XB12 ECM for a short while to test this ?

Thanks heaps for any help , I have searched but can not find a similar issue in other threads.

Dave

It can only be the ECM if the wiring in good. The ECM directly controls the fan, no relays involved.

You can try the other ECM but it will run like crap and probably throw trouble codes for lack of exhaust valve.

Have you verified the fan on/off settings in ECMSpy?

What firmware is on the ECM? I am guessing BUEGB231.

Yes its GB231 Firmware and all the fan on / off settings are stock . I ma going to try dropping them right down to see what happens .
It would not start with what I think is a Stock XB12 ECM .

Ok , I dropped the values at 1 fa and 1 fb on the ECM well below the running temp at the time of 140C , still no fan.
My XB12R race ECU is the same firmware version so can I flash the XB9 s EEPROM to that as a test ?

You might brick the ECM flashing it like that. I do have the software that is capable if creating an EEPROM file that can be flashed.

Email me both EEPROM files and I will see what I can do. terrydsmithjr@gmail.com

Thank you Terry , I appreciate the offer but at this stage I have decided that I am reluctant to mess with the ECM in my bike as it is running so well and I could start getting out of my depth.
What I have checked is that the engine temp is reading similar to mine after a similar ride. In all other respects the bike runs perfectly , the fan and wiring are fine and ECM spy will run the fan.
Its all pointing at the ECM at this stage if you go by the flow chart
