Check all your other engine mount bolts and your isolators. There may be something else that's loose or broken that's causing enough vibration that results in the broken front mounting bolts. That or your stunt riding is very demanding.

Does the same side go first every time they fail? Could some previous owner adjusted the tie-bars that should never be adjusted?

yes same side first, noticable vibration difference through bars but both must have gone close this time as it was on a short (200klm)ride.only have bottom tie bar been considering putting top tie bar on to see if this helps it has frame mount and mount on y yoke for this i think

OMG!!! Did you just say you are running with a tiebar missing? They are BOTH required to keep the motor in a plane as it moves up and down to the limit of the front isolator. You must install the missing tiebar before your next safe ride. It is a very important part.

Here's the deal: your rear isolators hold the rear of the motor/transmission level. The front isolator lets the motor move up and down to avoid transmitting that vibration to the frame, handlebars, and rider. The drive sprocket is only on the right side of the motor. Every time you accelerate, the motor tries to twist to the right, and the rear isolators have no objection to that motion because they are rubber. The two front tie bars hold the motor assembly from twisting whether to the right with acceleration or to the left with deceleration. Without one or both of them your front mount or its bolts are at risk of sustaining stresses in direction they are not designed to survive. Have you a service manual? This stuff is covered in there.

James,
The M2's didn't come with the "top" tie, the X1 and S3 (I think) did.
All the mounting points are on the M2, it just didn't come with the tie.
The one I'm talking about it the one that attaches to the motor mount and the frame, not the one down by the oil filter.

Brad

Oh, sorry to spread my ignorance. I thought the M2 and S3 shared motor mount geometry. Seems like leaving one off will increase twist; can he install an S3 part?

Yes, a X1 tie bolts right up.
This was discussed some time ago, final consensus was that it did improve handling while doing aggressive riding however it did increase the vibration level a bit.
Since the M2 is a more "standard" bike most felt it wasn't worth the extra vibes since most M2's aren't pushed as hard as the X1 was intended.

update:fitted top tie and a noticeable difference, bike felt taunter, overall less vibration but more through the pegs,i used to get numb hands a lot now only at lower speeds or a lot of down hill riding.
just did a 1100klm ride on the weekend with a lot of tight stuff and bike went awesome.
