I'm brand new to the Buell forums.

I've been riding an S1 White Lightning at New England Dragway for the past 4 years, fell in love with Buell, and finally just bought a 2004 XB12s.

The bike has 4,400 miles on it, and is almost completely stock. The only modification is a stock muffler with all (or most) of the baffles removed. This was done by the previous owner. The ECU / fuel map was not changed.

The bike runs well, except for one issue. Once it comes up to temperature, the revs are slow to return to idle. When rolling to a stop, the rpms's hang around 2k until I walk them down with the clutch.

When the bike is cold, it runs perfect.

Anyone have this problem? Is it mostly likely a confused fuel map because of the gutted muffler?

Thanks

The idle is set a tic too high. The adjuster screw is located right by the left air scoop. Turn it out a nudge, see if it improves. If not, try it again, but if lowing the idle doesn't solve it, you may need to perform a TPS reset.

When the bike's cold, it idles around 1100 rpm I believe. Does this sound like a correct idle speed for the xb's?

Also, I realized I posted this in the wrong section, its now in the Tech section.

Book calls for 1050-1100, I personally find the throttle often hangs when you do that, I usually recommend 1000-1050.

Thanks, I'll give this a try.

Since I just bought the bike I don't yet have a service manual. How difficult is it to reset the TPS?

I turned the idle down to the 1000 RPM range and the revs fall right back down like they should.

Thanks Froggy!
