Trying to get a 2001 Buell Blast that has sat in a garage for 2 years started up. Apparently no gas stabilizer was used after last use so I'm suspecting the carb might be varnished up. I've siphoned the fuel out, replaced with new fuel and added some sea foam to the fuel tank. I also changed the spark plug plus changed the oil & filter and installed a new battery (as the battery output after charging was lower than the manual said it should be). The Air filter looks relatively clean so I haven't cleaned or replaced it. When I try to start (with correct FINE-C) it turns over, sounds like it might start but never "catches". Giving it additional throttle does not help. Although I've rebuilt a truck engine I'm new to motorcycles so I'm not sure what I'm missing. The Motorcycle Owners Manual is relatively useless so any guidance on what I should do next or things I should be checking would be helpful. I've read a bunch of the postings here and now I'm at a loss on what I should do. It's been suggested that I need to remove the carb and clean it but after the things I had to do to get the spark plug changed I'm hoping I don't have to take the carb out. Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

For sure it's the carb. They are simple, pull it, carefully clean it, put it back, and go ride.

Clean it absurdly well. Even a little bit of goo can make it run badly.

I agree it is most likely the (dirty) carb. Although you did say you siphoned the fuel out rather than drained it from the line to the carb. If it had fuel with ethanol that mixes with water condensation it creates a goo that can sit in the bottom of the tank and also gum up the petcock/fuel shutoff and line. So by all means clean the carb well and pay special attention to the various ports, etc. Also flush and blow out the petcock and line. Good luck.

On the carb - make it easy for your self - bblow out the needle, and replace the slow jet with a 45 and the main with a 170, ditch the fuel in the bowl, let about a quart flow through the line to the carb and out into a can or other devise to throw away. Check intake boot, probably replace - they are rubber and crack over time and are cheap. Do all that and chances are she'll start right up - if battery is good as well - lol
