Mine tends to grind as it can't seem to get into gear. I can feel the teeth hitting and I'm concerned I'm going to break one off. I've seen some of the "solutions" pumping the clutch before turning on bike, letting the bike warm up, etc, but these suggestions aren't seemingly working for me? It's not the gear teeth you hear grinding, it is the gear engagement dogs, big nubs on the sides of the gears that lock together. Letting them grind is a really bad idea, so like Froggy advises, be deliberate when shifting.
