I have my bike in the shop for a myriad of problems and the tech told me that he may not be able to get the part.. Were they not supposed to support our bikes for 10 years or something like that?

I have that sick feeling in my stomach..

What part do you need? There is no predetermined date of the end of bike support.

the dealership told me that they need to order some parts but might not be able to find them, blew my mind.. I swear I remember a statement about Buell parts support..

I do not have a list yet of whats wrong, when I took it in yesterday, the first guy told me that they do not work on Buells anymore. The mechanic that I had been referred to told me that he would work on it when I called, so I left it with him anyway. They called today and told me that the oil leak was coming from the throttle cable, which has me confused, and that they might need to replace the entire cable.. Why would oil leak from the throttle cable, i'm not a mechanic, but thats confusing to me..

Anyway, Froggy, where would I post on here to ask about a good mechanic in the central Florida area. or should I just start learning to fix my own bike?

thanks

98% of the parts you can get no problem, 1% of them have extended lead times (mostly bodywork, but same was true before closing), and the last 1% is obsoleted.

Which dealer is this? I can check into it, not all dealers remained onboard to continue providing parts and service.

I don't see how thats even possible! Might as well say you got a flat tire because your headlight is on....

Post up in the Xboard asking about the dealers in Florida. I do recommend at a minimum you get the service and parts books, and post on here about your issues to get assistance. The bikes overall aren't hard to work on, I'm not a mechanic or anything and I only use my Harley dealer as a last resort.

Oil out of the CLUTCH cable would make more sense. Just my 2 cents.

I'm finding longer lead times on a few parts. Apart from bodywork, I've been waiting since November for a Uly switch-block for example. LH X/XT/Ss frame pucks also are taking a while.

What is a bit more of a worry is that anything to do with the switch controls (including throttle cables) have more than doubled in price. Maybe the price rises reflect the fact that the manufacture quantities are lower because the bikes are no longer in production.

yeah, the front desk guy told me the wrong part, its the clutch cable that is causing the leak. The mechanic fixed a small issue and I was able to ride my bike this weekend. He has to work up a parts list for me before he can give me a price on what its going to cost me.

Its a dealer in greater orlando, I dont want to out them as they have been pretty nice so far. I wont take the bike back to the dealer I bought it at in Melbourne, nor the last one that worked on it in Sanford.. I guess im just looking for someone I can trust. I mean the sanford dealer did my 10K work but somehow did not realize that the stater was burnt, causing the lights to blow. I brought it back in with the light problem that they could not diagnose. I had it in 4 times for that issue and after replacing the voltageregulator, sanding down all the contacts, and then me blowing more lights, they finally opened her back up and saw that the stater was fried in such a way that it was spiking the system. They should have caught that at the 10K service when I asked them to figure it out in the first place.. Oh well, live and learn..

I will post on the X board and see if anyone has a mechanic they trust in Central Florida..

later

Oh, and Froggy, the dealer in Melbourne told me that since I was missing the international bulb (little light bulb in the middle of the two headlights), moisture was getting in and causing my headlights to blow. That cost me $250 : ) ive never set foot in the store since.

Melbourne H-D has been bought by Orlando H-D. There is no point in traveling to Orlando for service. My stator was bad from the factory, too. Had a badly repaired splice inside the factory shrink wrap right at the pinch point near the drive sprocket. Your clutch cable full of oil issue is most likely a kink in the transmission vent hose.

I have a 99 X1 and the folks at americansportbike.com has had everything I needed for all my recent problems. What I have been telling dealerships, if they did the work, was to give me a list of what they would need and I found the parts myself. I had a bad experience with the shop here on Oahu getting parts and decided to do all the parts stuff myself.

by law Harley is required to support Buell parts for 10 years from the date of the bike. Example 2007 till 2017.

That is an inaccurate statement.

. . . . by the way . . since the day someone first floated that idea . . . I've asked folks to produce a copy of the "Law" they always refer to.

I have a fairly comprehensive library on motorcycle design and manufacturing laws and regulations and have never seen it (in the USA) but am very eager to see what the source of all these claims are.

To the best of my knowledge the only thing I have ever heard, consisting of "fact" was that Harley-Davidson, during a press conference, made some reference to "7 years".

I didn't believe it then and I don't know. . . but they did say that.
