OK so I just bought a 2009 ULY. Its my first bike, and when I went to check the oil I took the dipstick out and it was pouring out where the dipstick goes. I know you should check oil with a warm engine but this seems like way too much oil

was the bike running? Should check it on the sidestand with the motor hot but not running.

And you are correct, it shouldn't be pouring out. : )

Welcome! Congrats on the Uly!

Hi everyone, I purchased my first buell a 2009 xb 12ss long. I just changed the oil & filter. I re filled with 2.37 liters (2.5 us quarts) as the manual states. I took the bike for a good ride, waited several minutes and checked the oil level on the side stand on level ground. The oil level was below the add level. It took another half a liter to bring the level up to the middle of the safe zone. Should I have topped it up or left it at the 2.37 liter mark?

You should have left it. Don't wait several minutes before checking oil. Check it immediately upon shutting down a well warmed up bike.

With engine warmed up and running at IDLE, hold the bike straight and level (NOT on the sidestand). Screw the dipstick all the way in and then remove to check the level. Should be at full mark but not over full. Some folks run the level at the lower end of the range on the stick but I cannot suggest that.

It is correct according to the owners manual and the service manual for a 2002 Blast!.

OK I was wrong about engine running. There seems to have been a misprint between manuals. Engine should be warmed up and then shut OFF. Sorry folks.
