I just bought a pair of saddle bags that were supposed to be for a xb lightning but when I opened the box they don't look like the have enough straps to stay in place. They only have two straps to go under the seat and these little pouches on the side of them. I was hopeing someone could tell me what I got and how bad I got screwed. They don't look like they ever had any other straps on them so Maybe it's just this style. Any input would be much appreciated. Sorry no pics, Hopeing to get a new camera soon | ||

What is the part number Arthur? 91555-06Y are for the Lightning Long http://www.buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/produc t.asp?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=3&CategoryID=4&Produ ctID=4063 and 91458-05Y are for the Lightning http://www.buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/produc t.asp?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=3&CategoryID=4&Produ ctID=2228 They are only held with straps (so no bracket like the Firebolt version) and they wiggle around a bit. The main difference between the Lightning and the Long is the length and placement of the straps. A friend looked at trying to get the Lighting version to fit his Long but ended up giving up and putting them on eBay. | ||

I bought them off a guy and he was unsure of what they fit. There isn't a part number on it is the other problem. It looks like maybe they fit a firebolt and there missing the mounts to go with them unless it's an old style lightning setup. The pouches look like a bracket would fit in them and there is molded spots for the blinkers. I was wondering if maybe them pouches were for the reflectors to slide in to help hold it but my tail has been chopped so thats another problem. Anyone with any pics to help would be great. | ||

They are the Firebolt ones. The Lightning versions don't have pouches at the sides. The Lightning ones slide under the seat and then have straps to tie them around the pillion peg mounts. I have them fitted to my Firebolt all the time. The reflectors don't fit it the pouches. The bracket is much bigger and the ends are shaped a bit like a shoe anvil. This is the only picture I could find of the back of the bike at the moment. I have a spare set. If I can I'll get a better pic tomorrow including the bracket.  You could maybe get a bracket made. I never particularly liked the setup on the Lightning. The hole spacing is different but you could maybe use the bolt holes for the seat latch. | ||

Well that kinda bums me out! The guy I bought them from has a firebolt and said they fit a lightning. I maybe can rig something up but not impressed. My own ignorance for not knowing. Lesson learned. Here are some pics of the Firebolt bags on my bike. This is the Firebolt bracket fitted  The way the bracket mounts  The pockets in the bags. The Lightning versions don't have these  I haven't had a good look under a Lightning tail to see if a bracket could be rigged up. The Firebolt system is better IMO. Merry Christmas. Those are the bags... That setup looks much better and a lot easier than sewing on velcro. I think I could fabricate a bracket to work. What does the bracket bolt to the undertail? I appreciate all your help once again, I'd still be sitting here scratching my head. -Arthur- | ||

Hi Arthur I've just returned from a trip away. My Firebolt has bolt holes that hold up the underside of the tail piece and maybe hold part of the tray in the tail section - been a while since I had it in bits so I can't remember. My 1125 doesn't have anywhere that the bracket can be mounted, even if I drill through the under tail. A Lightning has the bolts for the seat catch that also hold the rear fender from underneath. I think there is a chance you could make a bracket to attach to those bolts. The bracket is mild steel and pretty easy to bend. It doesn't have to do much. Peter |
