Usually when I first start up it's ok, will run absolutely fine for a while, then sometimes (not always) starts spluttering, surging, cutting in and out, backfiring, sometimes really loud, if I gas it it usually pulls thru, takes off and is ok again and then it may do again, and then it will be fine for a while then start up again and then sometimes the motor just dies completely but will usually just start up again straight away.

Problem used to be just every now and then but seems to be happening more often now.

Any one have any ideas where to start checking ?

I am thinking maybe ecm related ? Altho I don't have another to swap and check.

Everything on the bike is stock. Exhaust, air filter etc.

Sounds exactly like what my M2 was doing. I changed the fuel filter and the screen at the fuel supply valve (inside tank) and cleaned out the tank somewhat, she's purring once again. Sounds fuel related anyway. Good luck

Ok, thanks, will maybe drain the tank anyway for a start n see altho I can't see any pattern of it happening on a full tank or near empty tank, it seems random which is why I was thinking maybe electrical but could well be fuel related for what I know. Thanks.

I had local Buell mechanic look at this and he found a bit of crap in the fuel tank after removing fuel pump, put new fuel filters and seems to be fine now, have only taken it for a short ride but so far so good, I'll be very relieved if this has sorted it all out cos it seems to be running really well now. Seems there was a fuel blockage here n there.
