New to the board followed it for a long time first time posting. Wanted to know where i can find a front cylinder head for my 04 XB12r and about how much it will cost? Thanks in advance for your help.

Why not just put in a timsert?

Like Bill said, use a Timsert.
Not cheap but they work better in this situation than an Helicoil.
Both are WAY cheaper than a head (around $300 without valves and springs.. if memory serves).

The Timserts have a shoulder on them where a Helicoil doesn't.

Thanks for the info i checked out the Timsert. But I have to pull the motor to get the head off either way right.

Nope, just rotate the motor forward in the frame, and remove the offending head.

If you wanted to take some risks, you could probably do it even without even removing the head. I probably would. You would need to apply lots of tricks to try and keep chips from drilling out of the motor, and lots of cleaning afterwards. And there would still be some risk. But I'm thinking a running shop vac duck taped to the exhaust port while you are drilling would do a fine job. I'd also figure out something to de-bur the inside of the port (dental pick or something) after drilling.

I had trouble with my rear cylinder plug hole last winter, and was luckily able to fix the threads. If you use either repair, I would not hesitate to keep the head on. Just use a lot of grease on your drilling and cutting tools to catch the chips. If you drop a few little chips in there, as long as they are aluminum, I would not worry about it. You can run the vacuum in the exhaust for added security.
I know I dropped a few little shavings into my engine when fixing the hole, but they didn't last very long. I'm going on 7k miles after the fact, and have no worries. Just dont drop any steel or big chunks in there.
