I am planning on changing out the oil pump gear.
Model: 2005, Firebolt XB12R, 16,500 miles

I am getting the parts and special tools together to do the task.

Parts? besides the new type gear and woodruff key
Gaskets? which ones are mandatory and which ones to have just in case.
Special shop tools? ie the bar that locks the crank to the clutch, others that I can buy at American Sport Bike or Buell suppliers.
Tips and things to watch out for in advance.

Any input will be appreciated.
I don't want to get in the middle of the switch out and not have something special to work with.

The wise answer is to get all new gaskets.

That being said, I reused the (new metal style) rocker box gaskets and they didn't leak. YMMV, don't try this at home, etc etc.

You will also need a new cam cover gasket, a new oil pump gasket. While it is rotated down, might as well put in fresh spark plugs as well.

can the oil pump gear drive nut be locked by using a locking bar on the crank sprocket/cluth sprocket ?as i have not got a locking tool for the gear drive nut and am planing some work on the primary and would do the gear drive at the same time if its easy as that ???

Yup. If you have that side off anyway, that's the easy way to do it.

And even without that, I've done the job twice now (M2 and XB9SX) without pulling off the primary cover or using the cam locking plate, and I'm a stickler for following factory torque specs on the motor. I don't remember how I got it on there, but it must not have been bad or I would have remembered it.

Probably putting it in 5th and putting a 2x4 through the rear wheel or something...
