I have a 03 xb9s and the belt just snapped b4 it reached 5k miles. I've read many of these forums on conversion and what not. I believe my question truely is..... Is the 03 the only candidate for these issues. Is the American sport bike conversion to a 04 a solution? American sport bike sells an upgraded belt than the OEM but how good is it? Has anyone had great success. Please help this poor old Buell lover. Thanks in advance.

How do you change a belt on the passo Stelvio in the rain?

I'm asking because when I'm holiday this summer using all the torque my little 135 bhp 1125r has to take out my German friends on their 200 bhp tuned kwaks and suzzies in the corners. I don't want to have to be towed to Milan to fit a belt.

This weeks saga,
My belt snapped when pulling hard from 90mph on an apex and I have been off the bike for most of the week waiting to get a new one. I live in London so you can imagine this might take even longer in the Alps. The forums are telling me just put it on and go.

The dealer is saying I have just paid £298.31 ($473.36) for a $165.00 belt because of Island tax and that to get it on you have to do all sorts tension and drive magic. Surely a belt is easier, cleaner and involves less parts and tools than a chain and sprocket change.

Seriously, I've fixed tyres while two big guys keep the back end of the bike airborne for 10 mins, on the side of a mountain.

Sorry this is a bit of a moan and the service manual is going to be in the post next week. But I want to know why I have to wait another two months before I can fit the Barkers Exhaust sitting in my front room because I now can't afford to get the race chip from Erik Buell Racing.

Slick - The problem with the 03 belt is that it can be very easily damaged when mishandled. Properly taken care of, they will last just as long as any other belt.

1125r - The belt installation and removal is very easy, it can be done in under half an hour even on the side of the road assuming you have tools. There is no tension or adjustment. The rear axle has a tapered edge on it that will automatically tighten the belt, and the idler pulley will maintain tension.

Cheers Froggy, been away for a while.
My little 1125r is about to get a few more horses, thanks to Erik Buell Racing and barkers.
The guys have said they'll lend me a bike to go to Milan if it breaks again and we'll fix it our selves. So it's looking good, two more weeks and off to the mountains : ).
