Hey gang,

Trying to keep it brief:
-bike barely runs under 4k rpm...stutters, jerks, pops, misfires, pretty hellish ride.

-4k to 5500 rpm, it runs pretty well, but lets out a hellish ka-boom every 30 seconds or so.

-5500 to redline, it runs just fine...I think. There's a lot of wind noise at that speed!

This started all the sudden, after making a stop after 25 minutes of riding. The bike absolutely wouldn't start, and I even had some gas bubbles coming out of a crack in the rear header. Also a strong smell of gas. I let it sit for 2 hours assuming it was flooded and charged the battery. When it finally did start (consumes about 35-50% of the battery to do so), it idled just fine for 1 minute or so, then began to die. After that, I had to damn near WOT it to get above 4000rpm as soon as possible. When it started the second time, it was accompanied by a big cloud of gray smoke. Looks awesome...really sells Buell's to people driving by when stranded at a traffic light. After that, it gave me the ride of my life...bucking, stuttering, and jerking. I racked my balls on the airbox enough times to sterilize Chuck Norris.

2003 Buell XB9R
57,000 miles

stock except for K&N and Power Commander
I uploaded the "zero map" to PCII 2 years ago
Throttle does stick sometimes
Never been inside motor
once used Jardine RT1 exhaust, but returned to stock last year

Thanks a lot for any suggestions! Friends are suggesting a compression check, checking for intermittent spark, and to throw out that power commander...which I would like to do this weekend. Also, I don't have a "check engine" light.

My personal guess - the Power Commander is dumping in way too much fuel, to the point it wont run. Remove it, and if possible perform a TPS reset.

Check the spark plugs too, I suspect they might now be fouled up.

Thanks for the vote! I agree, I want it out of there. Supposedly it's zeroed, but who knows what's going on inside...maybe it lost its marbles.

I have the 4-wire exhaust O2 sensor that plugs into the PCII, can I run it for a short time without the exhaust sensor connected to the harness? At least long enough to do some testing, then I can buy a new stock single-wire sensor if it works.

Hello all,
I removed the power commander this morning. The bike idles good and runs very well. In fact, it runs better than it has for the past 10,000 miles! It has more power, sounds healthier, and all the scary engine symptoms are gone!

Chalk this up to laziness. I had my power commander carefully installed with p-clips and good cable routing so I was reluctant to remove it when I removed my jardine exhaust. I uploaded the zero map, assuming that would be good enough.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I will also be changing plugs as suggested, as they are probably pretty dirty after all that rough running.
