About two years ago, the Buell Tech (Bret) at my local HD dealership left to start his own shop. I was sorry to see him go, as he had always done good work on my bike. However, I have always been happy with my dealer, so I never considered going to Bret's shop.

About a year after he opened it though, I needed the jetting on my Blast dyno tuned and for some reason I thought I would throw him some business. He got the job done quickly, inexpensively, and it worked well. I was impressed. Impressed enough that I asked him to do the next service on my Uly.

Sometime later I dropped the Uly off at his shop, around 5:30 PM. I asked him to do the 20k service, and I left. The next day I was driving to lunch at 11:00 AM, and my cell phone rings. "Your bike's ready." I was stunned that he got to it that quickly. I told him I'd need to line up someone to drive me over there to pick it up. "Want me to bring it to your house?" At this point I knew he was going to be doing all the work on my bike from now on.

Fast forward to one Monday last February. I was returning from a ride to Illinois (don't go there in Feb) and lost a fork seal on the way home. Tuesday morning I call Bret. "I lost a fork seal, can you replace them for me?" "I'll have to order those, you want both of them changed right? Do you need this quickly?" I told him no, there was no rush. By this time our relationship had evolved to the point that he had my credit card number and garage door code. I came home on Wed, and my bike was gone. Friday I came home and my bike was back, with new fork seals installed. I wonder how much faster that could have happened if I had told him I was in a hurry? My bill for all that was $332. That's a smoking deal.

I used to do some of the work on my bike. I don't any more. He is better and faster than me. He will see incidental things that I will overlook. Every thing he has ever done to my bike has exceeded my expectations. Occasionally they do not exceed his expectations, and he has redone work to make sure it was right with out me asking.

I am truly fortunate to have him to work on my bike.
