Chuck,

That looks great! I checked your profile, and sure enough you listed the upgrade... drag specialties. I'll check it out... looks like what I want.

Any serious noise, knee clearance, or performance issues? I am not looking to increase performance, but I don't want to mess up the tune and starve the engine either...

Thanks!
Bill

Well, now the new Bueller is lurking over HERE, asking his dumb questions!! I have a Vance & Hines muffler on the way for my newly-aquired '98 S1, and wondered if it was ABSOLUTELY necessary to rejet the carb? I have put slip-ons on my Harleys with no need to rejet, but I keep seeing recommendations to do so on the Buells. What do you guys think? If so, what's the proper procedure for getting the right jets? I have only done this on cars, and it was always a hit-or-miss thing (a.k.a. pain in the behind). Is there a standard set of jets that works best? Thanks for the input...

IMO, it's necessary to rejet whether you put that muffler on or not. Seriously, you can make some simple changes and dramatically improve your bike's manners.

Take a look at the ATC site for a good starting point. It's cheap and easy to do.

Bill, that air filter on my bike is not a direct bolt-on. It's made for a smaller carb. I put the filter assembly's backing plate on a lathe and enlarged the center hole and then redrilled the mounting and breather holes. I also added the Harley-Davidson venturi ring to smooth the flow of incoming air. Anyway -- it was cheap and easy (like me) and the bike still ran over an indicated 130 mph even with the stock muffler still on . . . plenty good enough
P.S. you may also want to dye the filter foam black with fabric dye . . . It came colored green . . . I don't know why.

Wow Chuck, yer kinda cute. Polishing the wheel edges? Simple, take the wheel off, remove the tire, sand off the paint along the edge and polish it. After you put the tire back on repolish because it's scratched up now. A week later polish it 'cause it looks yuckie, a week later polish it 'cause it looks yuckie, a week......

Mike, you didn't have to rejet before because the mufflers weren't flowing any more air than the stockers. Follow the instructions Aaron pointed out and you'll be on your way in an easy fashion.

Ole Ralphie,

You big hairy fella. Now lets quit picking on us trailer trash folks. But look at the bright side. You finally got to meet TWO fine fellas from IN. As opposed to the other two who actually rode the WHOLE distance to the Flats. I might add that they left early. hahaha Let's break out the polish and get to it.

later,

Got my Yodude intake today. Looks very nice but already having tech difficulties. The lower intake locknut does not fit behind the carb. Either does a regular nut. They use stainless Phillips bolt/nut for mounting. Have an e-mail into them for ideas. I'll keep you informed.

Troop -

Are you talking about the mounting of the metal breather elbow to the carb? On the Force they just use bolts (no nuts). You could probably just buy three hex bolts at an auto parts store and forego the stock nuts/bolts.

Do they use a K & N on the setup?

Anyone have any thoughts or advice on the Force XR2? I like the way the beather setup looks but Im wondering about what effect it has performance wise routing them back into the filter.

Troop-

let us know how you make out with the Yodude and what you think of it. Its looks pretty good but I havent heard of anyone running one. The thing that makes me a bit leary is I never see them advertise, they were on Ebay for a week or so and that was it. Do they have a web page?

Any of you tried the Beck Arnley O2 sensor on an X1? Results? B2W got a few HP by just switching!

Gmilk; I had a Force air cleaner with the "hard line" breather set-up that routed into the K&N element on my Sportster, never had any problems. But I only rode about 2,000 miles with that system on it before I sold the bike. When budget allows, the XR2 is a definite possibility for my X-1. Ed

I have just installed the XR2 setup on my 2000 X-1 buell. I am just waiting for a clear day on the weekend to take if for a ride. I will post back at you after the test drive.

Well, I got the XR2 on there and took her for her first ride...I only got it out for 20 min but all I can say is WOW!...the BOSS pipe sounds awesome(just a bit louder than th V&H). She coughs a bit when you first give her gas so Im pretty sure I have to jet the carb. The Force seems to make the bike run smoother though, especially at idle.

Throttle/ Idle cables: My S3T has been rubbing them on the fairing mount. I guess they were not routed properly from the factory. I had the fairing mount off and noticed it during reinstallation. One cable is cut through the outer sheating and the steel is exposed, rubbing the paint off my fairing mount. Anyone else had this problem? Did you reroute or wire tie them back? Pictures would help a bunch if anyone has any.

Thanks for any help.

I have a 00X1 and I've added a Wileyco exhaust and gutted the air box. Is it possible for a Buell dealer to remap my stock ECM or do I need the Race ECM?

Rusty:
You need the race ECM. The stock ECM is not reprogramable to the extent that it will be able to compensate for anything but stock components. You will like what that Race ECM does for your fuelie! It is hard to believe what a difference it makes

Got the dreaded stuck throttle syndrome on my 96 S1 after installing new throttle/idle cables even with a couple extra turns tightening up the idle cable. The problem with new cables is that they are straight and have to make a 90 degree bend to go into the cable holders on the carb bracket. So the idle cable naturally wants to slip up & out of the holder when you give it the gas.

The solution is to safety wire per Court's elegant steps or otherwise tie the cable to the bracket somehow. Well, I didn't have safety wire so I used two ty-wraps. One around the cable at the metal ferrule and another through the first one and looped around the cable bracket. The idle cable is firmly attached to the bracket now. Just for extra security I put a third ty-wrap around both cables about 2 inches from the the bracket. Long term road test to follow.

Mark,
My notes: I installed the higher T bars on my 98 S3 and found that the throttle/idle cables were pulled tight if routed forward of the right handlebar like the manual shows, but had some slack when routed behind the bar. You might check and see if there's any slack especially when turned hard right.
