I've searched the archives. I don't have an intake leak, tested it with propane. Carb has a Yost Power Tube so the jet sizes are different from stock. The local independent says go 20 down from normal. It came with a 170 and seems to be good at full throttle. Idle jet is a 45, screw 2 1/2 turns out. I've tried the needle clip in the middle position and as high as possible. No real change.
One issue I'm suspicious of is that the vent hole in the slide has been drilled out to more than 9/32. Would that cause a stumble?
Question two: how far out can the idle adjust screw be turned? If I tried it at 3 1/2 would that still be OK? Or should I try a 48 jet?
T-Storm heads, cams, stock ignition (timing set to spec.) VOES works. Sprayed carb cleaner into all orifices. (on the carb, going to try my own soon.)
Goes like snot at anything more than half throttle but bucks at constant speeds in the city.

Try the needle clip in the bottom position of the needle. Don't change anything else, and let us know!

Sorry, I changed three things at once. New spark plug leads (but I'll put the old ones back on to confirm that's not the issue.)
Moved the clip to its lowest postion.
And got hold of a screwdriver with a 90 degree bend so I could turn the idle air screw while running without burning my arm off. Runs best at 4 turns out.
With all the above, the stutter is almost completely gone. I think 4 turns out is excessive so I'm going to put a 48 in and adjust the mixture screw again.
Ah. The overly large hole in the plunger doesn't seem to have the effect I was expecting. I learned this by leaning over and looking into the carb while riding down the street at 30 mph. An interesting test of ability or insanity. Anyway, the slide stays nice and stable.
