At either low or highway speed, the engine will die and re-fire. Engine light turns on like the ignition had been cut and turned on, then extinguishes after approx 2 - 3 secs. This happens while I am still riding the bike. At speed, the stumble really wakes you up!
This has happened several times and I have had it to the dealer for analysis. They said nothing could be found, no codes, nor did it occur for them.
This morning, I let it warm up while getting ready for my commute and proceded toward the street. It died right before the clutch was engaged, and remained off. The oil, engine, and Hi-Beam lights were illuminated. Then, for some reason, only the Hi-Beam remained. I tried all of the hand control switches, including tapping on the ignition while it was still on, etc. Nothing changed.
I then turned the ignition off and all of the lights turned on, except for the low fuel. When I turned the key back on, they all remained. Even when I cycled the key about 3 times, nothing changed. It was then that I left it in the ON position and put the kickstand down to get off the bike. As soon as I came off of the seat, the lights re-set and all was good again.
I thought I was getting closer to the root cause. But after carefully inspecting the harness bundle under the seat while the engine was running, I could not duplicate the condition. Now I am wondering about the switch.
What would allow for power to go through the speedo head if the ignition switch is turned off?
Also, I should add that the tach and speedo both are fluxuating and drifting around while I'm travelling at constant speed.
I hope someone out there might have some ideas. I'm at a loss and feel that if it goes back into the shop, the same thing will happen as last time and nothing will be done.
Thanks.

This problem is posted about elsewhere and on UKBEG.
http://www.ukbeg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=267 8

The earth from the battery to the sub frame beside the fuse box is a weak link.

Improvements of been made by cleaning this up. I just did mine (5 minute job) after experiencing same sorta problem as you & took the bike for a spin - no probs so far.
The fuse box is held in by two tabs & lifts completely out (2008 model).

Hope it works for you.

Thanks! This sounds exactly like what I've been experiencing. I was just about to let the dealer have it again for a "couple of weeks", but have re-thought that activity. Looks like I've got my plans for the evening set.
