I just purchased a 2003 XB9S with 1700 miles on it. The owner was a guy who decided he'd rather ride his electric glide more then his sport bike, so its been sitting for about a season and a half on the same gas. I know I need to swap out the fuel in it, but the problem I am coming across now, is the gas cap lock seems like it is frozen in place. I tried to spray it out with wd40 to see if the fuel had caused it to lock over time. Any one else have any advice?

I am surprised it is happened on a bike of that age and mileage. It is common on brand new bikes especially when hot.

Anyway, there are a few things you can do.

Make sure you are twisting it the right way (counter clockwise to remove). Kinda a Captain Obvious thing, just covering our bases.

Try pushing down on the cap while you are twisting the key.

You mentioned the WD40, try spraying that directly onto the key then insert and remove the key a dozen times.

Thanks man. The couple people I talked to were a bit shocked that this happened too. But I did what you said, and it popped right open just pressing down on the cap and the key. Thanks for the advice and help.
