LOOK at the Moto Guzzi Gresio 1200 and you will see a double capacity forced air oil cooler whicxh has oil injectors that shoot the cool oil to the underside of piston crown diecty cooling engine /piston . With a Regular oil cooler the air goes the path of least resistance with 90% of the air going AROUND the unit(especially at high speeds ) with a forced air unit the pressure has no where to go but through the radiator coils increasing the efficiancy 10 fold. You now get not only COOLER oil but more of the oil is cooled .( sorry my teaching skills are crummy lol) the cool oil is now shot up hitting the underside of the piston crown directly which is of course the hottest point in engine . In short The Unit is like adding liquid cooling to an air cooled engine. Twins Motorcycles ( a site sponsor ) sells a unit for the XB models at only 175$ it is a forced air oil cooler AND double duties as left side air scoop for rear cylinder. The XBRR uses a similar unit but the twins model is actually better designed . Speaking of that To increase the efficiancy of the TWINS unit like the Guzzi unit.horrizonally divide the scoop internally so the oil cooler air is forced through radiator and the top half is just used to cool rear cylinder. This way again the air cannot flow the path of least resistance but passes through its designated area . once the horizonal divide is in scoop you can rid the bike as hard and as long as you like never having oil temps go over 150/175 (Weather/season) for 175$ you have a Happy engine and increased engine life considerably . |
