New member (as of this AM): thanks in advance. Yesterday morning: I went to start my bike and I got a "clicking" sound from my starter and then the speedo/tach/light panel reset itself. Went dark. Then everything came back on. Tried again - same thing. Scratched my head, hit the start button again and the bike started perfect. Tried to replicate it for my buddies a little later, but the bike started like a dream. About 150 miles later, the bike started acting up. My fuel injection light (or whatever that light is...looks like a v-twin) came on as i was riding. then my instrument panel started resetting again...as I was riding. The bike was hesitating probably every mile or two...very randomly. Pulled off the road after about 10-15 miles. My buddies helped me look @ it and we found the positive post screw was loose/sloppy on the battery and it had melted the screw in place. So, there was no way for me to tighten it down any further. We actually ended up breaking the screw off as we tried to back it out. Had the bike towed to my place and now I'm going to get a new battery today. Just wondering if I should be concerned/look for anything today.??? Or was it basically a case of me being dumber (i.e. I should've checked my battery connection right away)? Hoping the new battery and FIRM connection will fix it. |

The screws for the battery tend to be a millimeter too tall and sometimes can make poor contact and would cause all the issues you were having. Either different screws or a few washers and you are good as new |

Will any washers work? Steel? Lead? |

I was thinking about using lock-tite on the positive screw to address the exact same issue I just had. Bike did it to me at gas pump and again on the next start after only 30 miles it had come loose again. Sounds like the washer or both would be better. |

Loc tite can be an insulator, so I'd avoid that on battery posts. The washer is the best bet along with the normal amount of torque for that small size battery post screw. |
