So I just bought a 2003 XB9R and absolutely love it. It is totally stock except for a Jardine aluminum exhaust. I've been doing a bunch of maintenance on it to get it ready for riding, and one of the things I decided to do was repack the exhaust. When I got it apart, it did need it as there was little packing left. Unfortunately in the process, I was using a crappy drill bit and had to work pretty hard to get the rivets out, and accidentally mangled a few rivet holes (hard to get through the stainless steel, but kept on going into the soft aluminum), making them a little bigger. I put it all back together and noticed that many of the new rivets are pretty loose. Now when I ride it, I notice I get a lot of popping on deceleration. I sealed everything up with RTV silicone, but it didn't help. I am sort of concerned about the loose rivets ripping through the exhaust and potentially being a safety concern. Any suggestions (drill bigger holes + use bigger rivets, new exhaust,...)? What should I do? Thanks! |
