Looking at purchasing an XB9 that has been converted to chain drive. New to Buell, so I'm curious what the advantage/disadvantage is for this mod?

There is only one advantage of a chain on a street bike, and it is reliability. Belts like to break when you least expect it, while a chain typically will give a little warning before it fails. Other than that, the only other advantage of the chain is the ability to easily change gear ratios, which is desirable on the track.

Chains have many disadvantages though, including more maintenance, more noise, higher cost, more unsprung mass, and if it breaks it can cause serious harm to you and your bike.

Chain maintenance isn't and issue for me, and I've never had a chain fail on me. Can't imagine you can hear too much driveline noise from a chain over the engine.
I imagine the belt tentioner is modified with a sprocket as well...if so, does it offer the same amount of adjustment as any other chain driven bike?

Yes most of the chain conversion kits come with a different tensioner that can be adjusted.
