Hi I just picked up a 1999 X1 lightning. The bike only has 1,400 miles on it. It is stock no mods. The bike was stored for the last 8 years. Fuel pump wasn't working so I replaced the pump and bike ran great for about 5 miles then started missing and the engine light came on. Now it idles fine and seems to run ok at low rpm. It starts running poorly and bogs when you open up the throttle then the engine light comes on.It will idle all day long with no issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks! First, get a factory service manual, if you don't already have one. It will tell you how to retrieve trouble codes without a computer, and what the codes mean. At first blush, I would suspect the eng temp sensor, a known maintenance item. It can fail without throwing a specific code, or go out of calibration and cause all kinds of different trouble codes. Second choice (maybe first, actually) is run a couple of tanks of fuel through it, along w/some Seafoam cleaner in the tank. If the fuel was not stabilized or completely drained prior to storage, a clogged injector is possible. Get with Al at American Sport Bike, in the sponsor section. He will have the manual and the ETS, and the tool for installation. Hope this helps, Dave. |

I suspect you drained the old fuel when you replaced the pump. If not then there is probably your issue. Now if you are planning to keep the bike for awhile, I strongly recommend getting familiar with the ECMSPY software and get the cable. In addition to reading the codes you can also do other things such as resetting throttle position sensor (TPS) and tweaking the fuel maps. In your case since the engine light came on then there is probably a trouble code stored in the ECM and that would be where I'd start with troubleshooting. Good luck and keep us posted. |

Yes I drained all of the old fuel in the tank as well as in the fuel lines when I replaced the pump. I ran injector cleaner in the bike for a while. The injector on the back cylinder seems to be spraying ok but the injector on the front is just dripping fuel. I ordered new injectors and i'll report back when i get them installed. Thanks for all your suggestions. |

Well that was it! Took a while for the injectors to come in. I replaced both injectors and the bike is running great. Thanks to everyone who helped out on this post. |
