Hello, just bought my first Buell Blast. it is a 2001 with 1,100 miles. it has always been garaged but not ridden much the last couple years. On the test drive it ran a little funky and would cut out (fuel or ignition) while driving in any gear at any rpm. i figured it was probably just bad fuel or gunk in the carb. since getting it home i have fully disassembled and cleaned the carb with no change in performance. It starts up and idles just fine and will for hours if you let it. in neutral sitting still giving it quick throttle will cause a backfire from the carb. Manifold boot is perfect. cant find any obvious vacuum leak. changed and set the plug to .040 not sure where to go from here. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Did you check the carb diaphragm for leaks?

Did you check to see if the vacuum slide goes up and down when blipping the throttle?

When you cleaned the carb did you take the jets out and verify that they are not plugged or gunked up?

Regarding the ignition, did you verify that the spark plug cable is in good condition and clean at the terminals?

hi, thanks for the response! i inspected the diaphragm and could not see any obvious holes or tears. the whole carb was spotless but i did blow out all jets. the vacuum slide does go up and down. i will try another plug wire on it today. do the 2 electric components on the carb usually go bad after 1000k? thanks

Same thing happened to me after replacing the manifold coupler(boot). I did disassembled the carb and cleaned it. When tried to throttle up the engine would stall and back fire.

solution: the main jet receiver that goes between the needle and jet screw was upside down. The longer side should point towards the venturi of the carb.

i did this after reading different posts on this forum with no luck. So I did clean the carb again and noticed that the receiver could fit in both directions but only works in one, because it would change the height on the screw jet at the bottom of the carb.
