Mike, I also see those status thingys flash occasionally, mostly s10 and s12, with the engine running but have no clue what they represent or mean. Initially I thought they corresponded to the items/codes listed on the page where you get/clear the codes but could not make a consistent correlation. I can tell you that they do flash (occasionally) when then engine is running perfectly so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Of course I love to know what they mean.
One other thing you may want to check is to make sure the pins on the ECM are clean and corrosion free. I remember reading about someone having issues which were traced down to some minor corrosion on one of the ECM pins.

latest update ...

Pulled the Cam Position Sensor wires out from under under the starter , found the green wire "skinned" ...now I had already checked these wires with the multimeter end to end for continuity, but did not visually inspect the leads that wrapped under the starter.

I lengthened the wire run a few inches so I could route the wires closer to the battery and not crushed under the starter. I had replaced the starter gasket last summer, that may be when the wires were crushed...getting the starter back in place without removing the exhaust is doable, but a tight squeeze ( maybe too tight on those wires)

Rode the bike to work this morning, no pops or stumbles. I am not 100% confident just yet, but the ride home will reveal more

Another 3 heat cycles and no backfires!

I wish I could explain why a skinned wire on the cam position sensor would only effect ignition at certain times, but oh well.

Also my lesson learned is that ecm spy, a multi meter and the service manual are all useful, but examining every inch of the wiring harness is required when chasing this kind of intermittent problem.

Hey, if the skinned wire is close enough to a grounding point or another wire with a signal on it, that might explain the intermittent problem you were having. Anyhow, glad you got it sorted out,

After twelve plus years of Tuber ownership,ya think I would have it all figgered out... the only issue is that with 10 plus years of no dealership visits, I can only blame myself for any problems!
